Gears

Nov 2022: Beautiful, well formed involute spur gears and racks with proper trochoid flanks—where needed—and profile shift are now part of The GHOUL. The gears library is far from finished, and much remains to be done, however I felt I should share the beginnings of it now.

I’m concentrating on the documentation for a little while, once that’s finished, I’ll add bevel and worm gears to the library.

Yesterday’s news.

Braille

May 20th 2022: The GHOUL can now parse simple, single lines of Braille! It’s clever enough to work with simple numbers too… Also: bugfix, the Thread routines had a leeetle glitch: they didn’t render. At all. Due to a small (literally) issue with CGAL not being too happy with coinciding points, solved with a miniscule fudge-factor. Not the most elegant of solutions, but the fudge is several orders of magnitude below any 3D printer resolution, so my OCD isn’t too severely violated.

November 7th 2021: The Thread routines are back in line with the rest of the library. Being one of the oldest parts of the library, recent additions had made it necessary to revamp the Thread() routines. They have been improved with more accurate root radii, and tapered threads are now rendered correctly with insane taper angles (they used to get a bit funky beyond 5° which, realistically is already a bit nuts as a taper angle…).

SVG

October 17th 2021: I’ve added a fully fledged SVG parsing library for fonts and images, to generate polygons. I’m a bit proud of this one; it’ll accept any SVG path-string and generate the described polygons.

October 1st 2021: The Thread routines have fallen out of sync with the rest of the library, I’m working on revamping them, in the mean time there’s SimpleThread()

October 1st 2021: The GHOUL files and full documentation are uploaded to the server download them here…

Novel

With more than 40 pages, the current word-count of the documentation is over 60.000, which is firmly within the territory of a decent size novel (40 to 80 K). I have absolutely not the foggiest how many hours of my life I have invested in this. A bunch. I more than likely could buy me a nice new truck if I’d been paid.
